Job Security or Financial Freedom?

November 4, 2008 by mayurgudka

Last night, I met a computer consultant who had been out of a job for the past few months. His project had ended and he was looking for a new project. Upon inquiry, I found out that due to his Visa status, he could only work in computing field. Next question I asked him was if he could start a business under his visa status. That, he could do. I recommended he start a business of his own and also gave him a few low-cost ideas. This way, he could start generating some extra income.

To my surprise he gave me every reason under the sun why he cannot start a business and why job was the way to go. I knew I had to run away from this guy. His values about money and my values about money contradicted big time. He was the kind of guy who went from job-to-job looking for that security. He even told me that if he does not find a job by end of this month, he might have to sell his car, just to get some cash for survival. I really feel sorry for this guy. But, if he isn’t willing to help himself, there wasn’t much I could do.

However I am glad I met him, because he got me thinking about my beliefs about money. He treasured a job security, whereas I am gunning for financial security and financial freedom. Nothing wrong with what he was doing, but there is a lot of misery in that path.

Anyways, hope this got you thinking about what you are doing? Do you have a spare income? Are you gunning for job security or financial security and freedom? Let me know.

Hope this helped. Looking forward to reading your comments.

Dis-associate to Associate

November 3, 2008 by mayurgudka

Charlie “Tremendous” Jones says that five years from now, you will ahead, behind or stagnant in life depending on two things – kind of books you read and the people you associate with.

If you are not in life where you want to be, change your association. Otherwise, five years from today, everything will be the same in your life except, you will be five years older. Also, don’t associate with people who bring you down. Because, if you associate with such people on a regular basis, you will be in a worse situation than you currently are. So, how do you pick you association?

Look at people who are already in life where you want to be. Are they willing to help you get where they are? If your answer is yes, then these are the people you should be associating with. It will help you improve your mindset. They will challenge you to do better in life. They will guide you into the right path so you can also be as successful as they are.

You should also remember to not associate with the people who are going nowhere in life. Remember to dis-associate, so you can associate with people who have your interest at heart.

Figure out what you want in life. Find people who already the things you want in life. Lastly, figure out a way to associate with them.

Hope this helped. Looking forward to reading your comments.

The 10 Percent Rule for becoming Rich

October 31, 2008 by mayurgudka

A couple years ago, I read a book called The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason, and a few months ago I read another book called The Wealthy Barber by David Clifton. Both the books are about personal finance. They both talk about certain processes that are required for an average person like you and me to become wealthy. And, both the books recommend that you start it with the 10% rule. So, what is this 10% rule? By the way, I want to let you know that my wife and I have been following this 10% rule for a few months now, and its been working great for us.

The 10% rule is very simple. Every time you get paid, take 10% of your income and save it aside. Put it into your savings account, where your money creates more money for you in form of interest. I understand that most people live paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford to put 10% aside every paycheck. However, most people also spend money on things they don’t require and get into huge debt. At the beginning, it might seem a lot like putting 10% of your paycheck aside when you could be using it for other things but eventually you won’t even notice the difference. Your savings account will get bigger every payday. Within a short period you will have accumulated a small fortune.

This rule has worked for us, and I am sure it can work for you too. You just have to be disciplined about it. One of the best way to do it is getting the process automated. So, the money is directly transferred to your savings account rather than you manually putting it. If your company offers you direct-deposit, have them put 10% of your paycheck into your savings account. If you have a retirement account, put 10% of your paycheck into retirement account. If you get paid cash, immediately, put 10% of that money into your savings account.

You can create a fortune. You don’t have to be dependent on anyone for retirement. One of the concerns people have is I don’t make as much money as a lawyer or doctor would make. They have a higher chance of becoming wealthy, as opposed to me. No, they don’t. Because, if a lawyer and a doctor are spending everything they make they are broke at the end of each month. It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you keep. If you are saving from what you make, your expenses are less than your income which makes you richer.

Apply the 10% rule in your life and start your wealth building process. Begin it instantly. Do your research. Find out where you can get the most interest and you money will be safe. You can do it. You can be wealthy.

Hope this helped. Looking forward to reading your comments.

How do you ‘read’ failure?

October 31, 2008 by mayurgudka

I was recently reading a book called Beyond Positive Thinking written by Dr Arnold Fox, M.D. & Dr. Barry Fox, Ph. D. It is a phenomenal book. I highly recommend you own a copy of it. But, while reading this book, I came across a portion which shows how to read a failure. I mean, I knew that all success is based on failure. But, to understand failure and learn from it, you need to be able to read it to get the best out of it. What I am about to share with you is straight from the book Beyond Positive Thinking.

How do you read failure?

  1. You’re giving up too soon.
  2. You have the wrong approach
  3. You’re doing the wrong thing
  4. You have talents that have not yet been developed
  5. You need a rest
  6. You should examine your motives
  7. You should remember that you’re only human

Think about the ventures or activites where you think you might have failed. What did you do? Did you eventually get success? If so, did you do any of the above mentioned things in order to get success? If not, could the end result have changed If you had read that failure in one of above ways?

Why not give it a try? If there is something that recently happened in your life that makes you feel like a failure, re-assess the situation using the above bulletted points. Maybe you can turn it into success.

Hope this helped. Looking forward to reading your comments.

Failure is not an option, it is a requirement!

October 30, 2008 by mayurgudka

What?
Are you stupid?
You out of your god-given mind?
That’s right. Failure is not an option. Winning is. But, why do you say it’s a requirement?

These are some of the reactions I got when I said this statement to some of the people you know. Maybe you had a similar reaction. But, failure truly is a requirement. If you want to be a success in life, you should be willing to fail. The opposite of success is not failure, it’s quitting.

All along school, we are punished for making mistakes. It is taught to us that failure is bad. We should always succeed. But, most people forget that the best way to learn something is by failing at it. For example, learning to walk – a kid falls numerous amounts of time before he falls down. A boy will fall many times off his bicycle before he learns how to ride it. All success is based on failure.

Thomas Alva Edison failed over a 1000 times before he perfected the incandescant light bulb. If he had quitted after a first few tries, we might not have a light bulb today. A person only fails when he or she decides to quit. But, as long as one is persistently working towards their goal, they are not failures. They just haven’t found success yet.

So go ahead and fail. Learn from every failure. Apply the lesson to get one step close to your success. After enough failure, you will get so close to success, that you will be able to smell it. Then fail one more time, learn one more lesson and there is it. Success is all yours. I did it. You can too.

Hope this helped. Looking forward to reading your comments.

Why should you own a business?

October 28, 2008 by mayurgudka

Ever since we are kids, the majority of the people we know will tell us the same thing in terms of being successful.

  1. Go to school
  2. Get good grades
  3. Get a good job
  4. You will be all set in life.

I agree with the first three. But, have a problem with the fourth one. Here’s why. I have never seen a person who has worked all his life for someone else own a plane, or drive a Ferrari or give several million in charity. Have you? I bet you haven’t either. But, you know what? Bill Gates, Michael Dell, Warren Buffet, Rich DeVos, Dhirubhai Ambani, and many others have done all three. Do you know what is common in all these people? They are all business owners.

You see, employees are living paycheck to paycheck. They control neither their time nor money. Indirectly, the boss controls their lifestyle. But, when you become a business owner, you control everything. More importantly, you control the economic future of this great country we live in called United States of America.

It is the business owners who create jobs for the unemployed, not employees or broke union leaders. It is the business owners who work for as long as it takes to achieve success, not employees. Most employees wait until 5:00 PM, so they can hurry back home, sit their broke self on a couch and watch their idiot box.

I don’t want to beat this concept, but understand this – to achieve success in your life and make a major difference in other’s lives, we need to become business owners. Plus, you get the tax advantage. The tax laws are designed to benefit the business owners and penalize the employees. It just makes sense to become a business owner.

I know you can do it. You can become free from the slavery of a job. Do you have an idea that you have been toying with, for a while now? Do you passionately believe that it will generate good money for you? Well, what are you waiting for? Start acting on it, and become a business owner.

Goal Setting!

October 28, 2008 by mayurgudka

Setting goals for your life is very important. You get to choose what you want to accomplish in your lifetime, and setting goals help you get there. It helps you create focus, and achieve more.

There are 3 types of goals you can set.

  1. Short term goals – 1 to 2 year period
  2. Intermediate term goals – 2 to 5 year period
  3. Long term goals – 5 to 10 year period

What areas can you set your goals for?

  • Family Goals
  • Financial Goals
  • Health Goals
  • Spiritual Goals

When you set you goals, make sure they are bite-size achievable goals. What I mean by this is, let’s say you are making $40,000/year right now. Don’t set your short-term goal to make $1,000,000/year. It can be your intermediate or long-term goal.

Make your goals specific. The more you write down your goal in detail, the better. It will crystallize your vision. For example, don’t just say, I want a house. Write down, I want a brown colored, colonial with 5 bedrooms, 2 car garage on a 3 acre property.

Write a date next to your goal. So, you know when you want them accomplished by. If you don’t write the date, you don’t have a deadline. You could be pursuing a short-term goal for the rest of your life.

If possible, inter-connect your goals. Make your short-term goals part of your intermediate goals. Make your intermediate goals, part of your long-term goals.

Keep those goals in your pocket and look at the several times a day. This will program your subconscious mind to focus on achieving your goals.

And finally, once you accomplish your goals, set new goals. Because, if a person is not working towards a goal, he is not living life to its fullest.

Hope this helped. Let me know what you think.

What is your brain worth?

October 27, 2008 by mayurgudka

Do you know how much is your brain worth? Or, do you need a check-up from your neck-up? :-) It sounds so funny – check-up from your neck-up. I personally believe, that every human brain is worth about $3 Billion, at the very least. I mean, look at how fast your brain can operate. It does about 20,000 Trillion calculations per seconds. Don’t believe it? You ever see something or read something and all of a sudden your brain travels back in time and remembers a person or an event related to your reading or seeing? That’s right. It takes lots of calculations to do something like that for a computer. Your brain does that in an instant. Your brain is worth #3 Billion if you need it and nourish it properly. I don’t mean, you would get $3 Billion by selling your brain, but your brain has the ability to make you that much money in your lifetime.

This actually reminded me of a joke … A person was seriously ill into the hospital. His family was at the hospital to give him Moral support. At one point, the doctor came out and told the family, that it was imperative that the patients brain be changed, otherwise he could die. Doctor said, “It doesn’t matter whether we install a female brain or a male brain. It is all the same. There’s just a cost difference.” A family member asked, “How much is the cost difference?”. Doctor said, “A female brain costs $500 where as the male brain costs $5,000.” Obviously the males in the room seemed to be very proud. They tried not to smile or smirk. However, one male in the room couldn’t resist and asked the doctor about the difference. Doctor explained, “A female brain costs less because it is always very used. A male brain costs so much is because it is hardly ever used.”

Hope you had a good laugh, regardless of whether you are a male or female. Anyways, most people spend lots of money every day to feed their body neck-down. But, very few people invest their time and money in feeding their body neck-up. If you look at how money is made, people who use neck-down part of their body at their jobs make very less money compared to people who mostly use their brain to make money. Ever think about it?

Question is how do you feed your brain every day? You read books … books that inspire you, fill your brain with positive thoughts, books that encourage and provide ways for you to become better. You associate with people who are in life where you want to be. You dis-associate with people who are in life where you don’t want to be.

Take action now. You can do it. You can change your life and make it better. It will help you and your family. It worked for me, and it will for you also. Hope I helped.
